Atlas Minimus, or a New Set of Pocket Maps
First edition, second issue: same as the first issue, with the correction to the Africa map, and to the Index. Attractive copy of this rare 18th century English pocket atlas; although devoted to the World, the interest in America is evidenced by the dedication of almost a third of the maps to the continent. GibsonĀ“s miniature atlas was an immediate success, and was reprinted several times throughout the 18th century. Provenance: Francis Gertrude Stewart -early ownership signature to recto of frontispiece and partially effaced signature to title; ownership inscription to recto of frontispiece of Mary Elizabeth Montgomery. NMM III 306 (listed under Emanuel Bowen). Phillips, 621. English Short Title Catalog, T163454 (for the 1758).
