Roterdami - Regneri Leers 1694 - A seventeenth century edition of Franciscus Junis' major work. With an engraved frontispiece and a decorative headpiece to the start. In the original Latin. De Pictura Veterum is also known as On the Painting of the Antients. It is a theoretical discussion of classical art. It is one of the cornerstones of the Neoclassical movement. The work was first published in 1637. Franciscus Jinius was a pioneer of Germanic philology. He collected many ancient manuscripts and was therefore published the first modern editions of a number of very important texts. Condition: In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to spine. Rebacked with original boards preserved. Library label to the tail of the spine. Externally, heavily rubbed to the boards. Repair to the front and rear hinges. Bookplate to front pastedown, 'Bequeathed to the Bishopric of Cornwall by the Rev Franke Parker M. A 1883'. Shelf label to the verso of front endpaper. Prior owner's notes to the engraved frontis and to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with scattered spotting throughout.
