The Proceedings and Addresses at the Freethinkers' Convention Held at Watkins, N.Y. .1878
D.M. Bennett, New York 1878 - Octavo. 398 pages. This was the Second annual meeting of the Association which had been founded in 1877 at Wolcott in Wayne County, New York. Their members were convinced that agonosticism and atheism were the only approaches for rational people. The transcripts which are printed in this volume come from both men and women. They call for civil rights including the rights of women to vote and the more anti-religious speaker called out: "Jehovah is dead." People were sometimes arrested for selling these books since such ideas were charged as selling obscene and indecent materials.Bound in maroon cloth, title on spine gilt, cloth spotted and soiled. A good copy.
