Nimes, Gaude, pere, fils & Co., 1781. - Large 8vo. 3 vols. (4), XXXII, 512 pp. (4), 566 pp. IV, 423, (1) pp. With 8 folding engr. plates and several woodcut vignettes. Contemp. marbled boards. Edges sprinkled in red. 8th ed. - The physicist A. H. Paulian (1722-1801) taught at the Jesuit college of Avignon, where his great dictionary of physics was first published in 1761. He had developed the word from his one-volume ‘Dictionnaire de physique portatif’ (1758). The plates depict geometric constructions and bodies, models of light refraction, astronomical models, etc. - Front covers slightly rubbed (traces of removed labels), otherwise a good, clean copy.
