Female friendship; A Tale for Sundays
London: J. Harris, 1824. iv, 212pp. With engraved frontispiece. Finely bound in contemporary green calf, elaborately tooled in gilt and blind, two contrasting morocco lettering-pieces. Marbled edges. Slightest of rubbing to extremities, else a fine copy. Contemporary gift inscription and short closed tear to blank fly leaves, otherwise internally clean and crisp. A scarce Harris-published novel for teenagers, composed by a 'decided church-woman' and designed for use on a Sunday with a narrative including drama and romance serving as a welcome tonic to 'sermons and other dry books of devotions'. COPAC and OCLC locate copies at only four British institutions (BL, Exeter, V&A, Warwick), and five elsewhere (Amsterdam, Lilly, Marquette, UCLA and Wichita). Moon 258.. First edition. 12mo.
