FIRST revised and enlarged edition 1718 of The Nobleman, Gentleman, and Gardener's Recreation (1715), 3 VOLUMES, complete set, but Volume III from another set. 8vo, approximately 200 x 120 mm, 7¾ x 4½ inches, VOLUME I: engraved pictorial title page positioned as frontispiece, 1 folding engraved plate, pages: (4), 16, xlv, (3), 352, (16); VOLUME ll: 48 engraved plates starting with plate numbered 2, 11 are folding, some quite large, some single plates are diagrams, 2 copies of this volume listed online, both start on plate 2 the same as our copy, Hathi Trust and Garden History, both located through Google. Pages: (4), ii, 271, (7), indexes ar rear of each volume, VOLUME lll: 2 folding engraved plates, pages: [16], 1-xvi, 1-255, index at front, head and tail pieces. Volumes 1 & 2 in full contemporary calf, raised bands, gilt decoration in compartments, contrasting gilt lettered labels, Volume III in full contemporary calf, no decoration to spine, gilt lettered black label to spine, panelled decoration to covers, facsimile title page, lacking original title page. Hinges of Volumes ! & II just starting to crack but holding firmly, small leather repair to lower cover of Volume II next to spine, tiny chip to leather at top of lower hinge on Volume I, another to foot of lower hinge on Volume II, armorial bookplate on front pastedowns of Sir Edward O' Brien who has also neatly signed the title pages, a few pages age-browned, a few slightly browned facing folding plates. Volume lll tips of corners worn, 1 folding plate has a long old repair running into image, old clear tape on image side , no loss to image, 1 section just protruding from text block, no loose pages, plates a little creased, occasional small brown mark, some pale staining and age-browning to last few pages, pale browning to edges of margins, old ink name to top of title page and blank section of 2 other pages, 1 page has 3 tiny holes to margins, not affecting text, blank side of the last free endpaper and pastedown have old ink names and some scribble, dedication page is dusty and has small chip to lower margin, one or two other prelims are slightly dusty. Volume I is a reprint of his well known work "The Nobleman, Gentleman, and Gardener's Recreation, 1715", Henrey, British Botanical and Horticultural Literature Volume III, 1411.
