White Fang
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1906 Illustrated by Charles Livingston Bull. First edition, second issue with tipped in title page on wove paper as usual. Publisher's vertically ribbed gray-green decorative cloth designed and signed by "CX", with gilt lettering to the spine, wolf illustration and lettering stamped in black and white to the front board. Near fine, with much less rubbing to the front board than usual, a touch of wear to the extremities, faint toning to the spine, bright gilt, paper hinge lightly starting inside the front cover, otherwise sturdy binding, a small spot of soiling to the rear board, else bright and clean. An excellent copy. BAL 11896. Originally published serially in Outing magazine from May-October 1906, White Fang is a companion novel to its predecessor, The Call of the Wild. The novel is written from the point of view of the titular main character, a wolf-dog named White Fang, as he transitions into domestication. The novel is set in the Yukon Territory in Canada during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s. White Fang is the thematic opposite of its companion text; while The Call of the Wild concerns a dog's natural wild instincts, White Fang is about an undomesticated creature's ability to be tamed.. Illus. by Bull, Charles Livingston. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
