The Morris Family of Philadelphia Descendants of Anthony Morris1654-1721 Volumes 1, 3, 4, 5 of the Morris family copy with a letter from Mrs. Charles Biddle laid in.
Philadelphia: R. C. Moon, 1898- 1909 - First edition, vols 1, 3, 4, 5, super royal 8vo (10ΒΌ x 7), pp. 388, (1) facs, (1) blank; (1) title, (1) blank, 815-1260, (1) errata, (1) blank; 196; (10), 197-483 (1) blank. Numerous plates throughout. Original publisher’s gilt lettered burgundy cloth, top edges gilt. Very good+ clean set. Sheets & plates clean, unmarked, no stains, no foxing. Present volumes are complete. Slight ‘ghosts’ of small labels gone from the back-strips & some light fading, corners moderately bumped. Provenance: Laid in is a letter on Andalusia Cottage printed stationary from Mrs. Charles Biddle with the salutation: “My Dear Mr. Morris,” thanking him for “.a copy of the letter, too” and adding that she sent “.the other to Julia Bowdoin.” whom she hopes she may “.bring with me for that dish of tea with you.” Her printed personal card “Mrs. Charles Biddle Andalusia” is also laid in. There is also at least one by hand correction: a name in the genealogical record on p. 839. David Hunt Stockwell’s bookplate & number on paste-downs. Stockwell was a long time & well known antiquarian from Wilmington, Delaware. A scarce genealogical study of particular interest concerning the Morris, Biddle, Wistar, Vaux, et al Philadelphia families. H6886 [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
