London, William Smith 1843. 2 volumes. Hardbacks. Large, 11 x 8.5 inches. Quarter-bound in dark green leather to spines and corners, and red pebbled cloth boards. Raised banding, gilt decoration and lettering to spines. All page edges gilt. Yellow endpapers. In very good conditions. Covers are suffering some wear; Spines heavily faded, quite heavy rubbing to edges and corners. Top piece of spine of vol.2 lost. Some rubbing, darkening and some marks to cloths on boards. Glue repairs to spines/ hinges cracked. Bookplates and bookseller labels to front endpapers, “D.R. Cousins.” and “T. Walesby, Northampton.” Inscribed on secondary endpapers “Elizabeth Anne Abbey, Wellingford Grange.” Some light foxing to title page and contents of vol.1. Some tiny spots to pages and small marks to edges of plates but overall very clean and tight, with beautiful bright, clean and crisp plates. Except last plate in vol.2 has some heavy foxing. All plates have tissue-guards. Stunning beautiful, highly detailed hand-coloured plates. 258 + 268pp. CXXIV (124) Hand-Coloured full-page engraved plates.
