An essay on the general principles and present practice of banking, in England and Scotland: with supplementary observations on the steps proper to form a public bank, and the system on which its accounts ought to be kept. ..... Fifth edition.
London: Baldwin, Cradock, & Joy; and J. Ridgway. 1826. 8vo., (4) + xx + 130pp., contemporary half calf gilt, neatly rebacked and lettered. A fine presentation copy inscribed in ink by the author> at head of title: The Most Noble the Marquis of Londonderry, with the respectful compliments of the author.> Joplin's Essay on Banking> was first published in 1822 and subsequent editions were each supplemented by revisions and new material. A new Preface was written for the present fifth edition and there is clear evidence of new material being incorporated in the body of the text (with, for example, references to a relevant meeting held at the Town Hall in Lancaster on 14th July 1826).
