A Great New Beginning--The 1981 Inaugural Story
Presidential Inaugural Committee, 1981. Hardcover. Fine. deluxe book commemorating the inauguration of Ronald Reagan as the 40th President of the United States in 1981. This is a very special Association Copy given by Reagan's new White House Counsel, Ed Meese, & his wife to the Horrell family of La Mesa, CA. SIGNED by many parties, including President Reagan, Ed & Ursula Meese (on ffep [free front endpaper]) & Mrs. Meese again ("Ursie") on page 11. Cannot determine which of the Meese's wrote the inscription on the ffep. Also includes a handwritten note on Meese family stationery, signed by Ursula, that she apparently included with the book when dropping it off at the Horrell family home. This note has a small stain & wrinkling along the top edge. Oversized hardcover in 192 pages with photographs on every page. It has burgundy cloth over boards with the presidential seal in gilt in center of front cover & gilt lettering to spine. Condition is FINE: looks, feels, & smells just slightly less crisp than Brand New! Completely clean, pages white, binding strong & straight. NO writing, underlining, or highlighting; NOT ex-lib. Only flaw is slightly bumped corners. Unclipped DJ downgraded to VG due to light soiling & discoloration & some short tears & chips. Worst one is unclosed tear ascending from bottom edge of back cover about 1" from fore edge. Nicely protected in new archival mylar cover. Please see our photos!
