London: Printed for the Subscribers Only, 1856.. ASSOCIATION COPY WITH MS LETTER. Large Quarto, pp.lvi, 230. With 24 illustrated plates to rear, the first eight being four pairs, each with a colour and a line-drawn version of the same objects. Also with frequent in-text engravings and a frontispiece portrait of Joseph Mayer. Including an MS LETTER SIGNED BY JOSEPH MAYER, original owner of the manuscript and dedicatee of the published book. In contemporary half green morocco with gilt titles to spine and marbled boards and end-papers. Top edge gilt. Dampstain and spotting to the introduction; occasional spotting elsewhere. Light external wear. Very good overall. A rare tome concerning early excavations in Kent, complete with sketches of the objects found, mainly from the Late Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. Published many years after Rev. Faussett's sudden early death by a consortium of concerned Antiquarians. Fewer than 350 subscribers listed.
