John Morphew 1713 - [Swift, Jonathan], Mr. C----ns's Discourse of Free-Thinking, put into plain English, by way of Abstract, for the Use of the Poor. By a Friend of the Author. Fore-edge and tail uncut, top edge closely cropped partially removing some page numbers; text is unaffected, light foxing. Teerink 587 Anthony Collin's, the celebrated Deist, published, in 1713, his 'Discourse of Freethinking, occasioned by the Rise and Growth of a Sect called Freethinkers'. Swift also mingled in the controversy, yet rather with a political than a religious view. Swift, in making this ironical defence of Collin's, assumed the character of a Whig, as if to identify the deistical opinions of that author with those of the opponents of the Tory Ministry.
