Large 16mo (13.5 x 9 cm). With 20 engraved maps (18 double-page and 2 folding). Contemporary paper boards.
BMC Printed maps IX, col. 373; Koeman, Maa 2; WorldCat (3 copies). Rare first edition of a small pocket atlas, intended for travellers in the Netherlands. It contains 20 engraved maps, starting with a map of the English Channel and the North Sea, displaying different routes and their distances from Great Britain to the Netherlands and France, and from France to the Netherlands. Other maps show the cities Amsterdam, Haarlem, Rotterdam, the Hague and Antwerp, and more generally the provinces of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, and Brabant. All the plates are captioned in French. With instructions in manuscript, for the route from Zaandam to Spaarndam, on an endleaf. With a stain in the lower margin of the title-page, a few maps slightly thumbed in the margins, but otherwise in very good condition. Binding stained and rubbed along the extremities, but still structurally sound.
