Stoian Rainov (The painter Stoian Rainov, album of reproductions). Knigi za bibliofili (Books for bibliophiles), 2.
Stara Zagora: Knigoizdatelstvo Vezni 1919 - Octavo (15 x 15 cm). Original pictorial wrappers by Sirak Skitnik; [3] pp., [8] leaves of plates, of which three in color. Wrappers lightly worn to edges; still about very good. Album of eight reproductions of work by Stoian Rainov (or Raynov, 1894-1978), one of the founders of the Bulgarian school of ceramics, who began his career in the Secessionist manner, with drawings and vignettes. Rainov did not embrace Expressionism, unlike fellow Bulgarian modernists Sirak Skitnik and Geo Milev, hewing closer to a Symbolist and Secession-influenced style. Rainov's elder brother Nikolai Rainov (1889-1954) was a poet, writer, and artist. Both were close to the poet and artist Geo Milev, who published the journal Vezni in 1919-21. Rainov remains completely unknown in the West. Eight full-page reproductions of Rainov's work, which show various influences, such as Symbolism, Japan, and the esoteric, some with titles, others with aphorisms and citations of contemporary Bulgarian literature. This publication is pictured in Ruzha Marinska, Geo Milev and the Art (2015), p. 45. Not in Jacono. KVK, OCLC show a sole copy, at Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
