Copac adds Birmingham, Manchester and King's College. Fine copy.. Small 8vo (9.5 x 7 cm), contemporary limp vellum, black lettering and rules on the spine. 1055 aphorisms culled for their insightfulness from the works of Francesco Petrarch, principally from De Remediis, which Platt refers to as "Flores Petrarchæ." The aphorisms are preceded by an index of subjects, in alphabetical order, viz: amicitia (friendship), avaritia (avarice), bellum (war), etc. Hugh Platt (1552-1608), who published about 12 books, none uninteresting, was an Elizabethan writer, inventor, and man of many talents. Ownership signature on the front blank of another notable Englishman, clergyman Hannibal Gamon (1582-1651). See the DNB for Platt and Gamon.
