ALLEN & C.° ENGRAVERS & PRINTER BIRMINGHAM (1805). Incisione all'acquaforte di mm 653 x 528, su carta di cellulosa in coloritura d'epoca. Piccolo foro nella parte bassa dell'immagine e traccia di antichi restauri. Nessun altro difetto. Diciture: subito sotto l'immagine a sinistra "Drawn by Geo. Yates of Oswestry" e a destra "Engraved by Fran.s Eginton". Il cartiglio, separato in centro dal titolo "To the Ellesmere Canal Company this View of Pont Y Cyssyllte Aqueduct is Inscribed by their most Ob. Humble Serv. George Yates", recita "This Grand Aqueduct was Erected from a design of Thomas Telford Esq.r Civil Engineer, and conveys the Ellesmere Canal over the River Dee at the Eastern termination of the Vale of Llangotten in North Wales; the first Stone was laid on the 25th of July 1795, and the Navigation opened on the 26th of Nov.r 1805. Lenght of the Iron Work 1007 feet. Height from the surface of the Rock on the South of the River to the top of the side Plates 126 Feet 8 Inches. Breadth of the Water Channel within the Iron Work 7 Feet 10 Inches. Number of Pillars besides Abutments 18, Distance from each other , at the top 45 Feet. Depth of the Iron Plates, for Canal part, 5 Feet 3 Inches. Lenght of the Earthen Embankment south of the River, 1500 Feet; Height of D.o at the south Abutment, 75 Feet." Francis Eginton (1775-1823) nacque a Birmingham da una famiglia di incisori; si distinse nel suo lavoro per la qualità e preciso delle sue lastre. Come illustratore di volumi lavorò per il "Shaw's Staffordshire" "Price's Histories of Hereford and Leominster,' "NVheler's * History of Stratford-on-Avon,' Bissett's Picturesque Birmingham Guide,' Pratt's 'Leamington Guide,' Howell's * Shrewsbury,'; in generale per tutte le pubblicazioni storiche e topografiche relative al midland inglese. La grande stampa del "Pont-y-Cyssyllte aqueduct" fu comunque il suo lavoro più notevole. Morì a Meertown House, vicino a Newport all'età di 48 anni.
