Of the Citie of God: with the Learned Comments of Io. Lod. Vives. Englished by I.H.
[London]: Printed by George Eld, 1610. First edition thus. 4to bound in sixes. (20), 921, (11) pp. Contemporary full calf, spine with raised bands, blind tooled borders to the boards, the later book label of the the Rev. John H. Whish mounted into the front pastedown with his ownership inscription to the front blank, Whish's transcription of "Milner's short view of A's City of God" to both sides of the rear blank. Very subtle repairs to the spine ends, joints and corners, the foot of the front blank slightly worn with some neat restoration, a mild damp stain recurring to the upper edge of pages 45-66, a small wormhole to the final 23 leaves affecting the margin only and not encroaching into the text, a very good copy overall. The first printing of John Healey's translation into English of St. Augustine's "De Civitate Dei", including the commentary of Juan Luis Vives.
