Dust jacket has one small dampstain and light edge wear, a rare find in such good condition. Tan linen pictorial boards with light soil, lightly rubbed edges, sunning on spine, and bumped corners. Binding has some cracking between signatures. Gilt top edge, rough-trimmed pages. Light foxing on endpapers and some pages, title page is almost detached. All plates present as called for. Color frontis, xxxv, 399, [4] adverts. This copy is personally inscribed by the author, dated 1903 in New York, on the first free endpaper. Frederick Dellenbaugh, artist and topographer on John Wesley Powell's second Colorado River expedition, writes of the river's exploration history, with a longer passage on his own personal adventure. " An excellent compendium of Colorado River history from the time of Ulloa and Cardenas to the Brown-Stanton expedition of 1889-90.
