Call It Sleep. Foreword by Walter Allen.
New York: Cooper Square Publishers, Inc., 1965 - Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Small mark to rear cover, some light spotting to edges of text block, a very good copy in the slightly soiled jacket with some loss to spine ends and some shallow chips and and tears to extremities. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "To Kenton Morse, ''Tis here! 'Tis here! 'Tis Gone!' Affectionately, Henry Roth." It is accompanied by a typed and signed postcard from Roth to Kenton Morse, in which he writes that has "discouraged at first about dramatic 'form', but easier now though not voluble enough." The book was originally published in the US in 1934, but, though well-received critically, sales were poor and the book went out of print for 25 years. In 1964, the book was re-published in paperback by Avon Books, and sold over a million copies. This edition, issued a year later, features a critical introduction by Maxwell Geismar. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
