The author traces his roots back to XV century examining in detail life stories of the most prominent representatives of the family. The first volume is dedicated to the author's paternal side, who originated from the Tver' nobility. In the beginning of XIX century through marriage the Nekliudovs became related to the most respected noble families of the Narishkins and Stroganovs, whose story is also described in the memoirs. The second volume deals with the family history of the author's mother, whose descendants from the Greek aristocracy in Constantinople eventually settled in Russia. This well written account based on the family archives provides an interesting insight into the history of Russia through the stories of individual people. This set was given by the author to the Russian politician Aleksander Naumov (1868 — 1950) and his wife Anna. Having occupied high posts in the government, including as a Minister of Agriculture, Naumov had to emigrate after the revolution. Despite appreciating talents of his classmate Vladimir Ulianov (Lenin), with whom he shared a desk during 6 years, he considered himself an enemy of the Soviet regime. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
