Inscribed presentation copy, Original orange cloth with blue titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Housed in a purpose made quarter black morocco solander case, with titles in gilt to the spine. A superb near fine copy, the binding clean, square and tight, the contents bright and unmarked throughout. Complete with the near fine lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which is a little faded to the spine. Not price-clipped ($2.50 to the upper front flap). A lovely example of the fifth Philip Marlowe novel, very scarce in signed presentation state. Inscribed by the author in black ink on the front free endpaper ?For / Rachel Brand / with my best wishes (for / better books) / Raymond Chandler / La Jolla / Oct 23rd, 1949?.
