Hemard presents the official text of the sections of the French Civil Code concerning family law with witty, and often mildly erotic, color pochoir illustrations. This book was produced in three editions, each with different limitations and features. The present edition, which is the largest, has an original sketch of two text illustrations by the artist and a set of 65 plates reproducing all of the images in the book. Hemard, a prolific artist, illustrator, designer and author, is best-known for his humorously illustrated editions of serious non-fiction books. Sir Frederick Pollock [1845-1937] was one of the greatest British judges and legal scholars of his day. His treatises on contracts, jurisprudence the common law and other subjects did much to clarify and systematize English law. Several of these were standard texts that went through several editions. He is also remembered for his collaboration with F.W. Maitland on The History of English Law Before the Time of Edward I and his correspondence with Oliver Wendell Holmes, which was published posthumously as The Holmes-Pollock Letters.
