The Collected Works in Verse and Prose of William Butler Yeats.
London Imprinted at Shakespeare Head Press Stratford-upon-Avon: Chapman & Hall 1908 - First collected edition limited to 1,060 copies, eight volumes, 8vo., four photogravure frontispieces (in volumes 1, 3, 5 & 7) taken from charcoal drawings by John Singer Sargent, endpapers browned and the usual age-toning throughout, volumes V and VI with contemporary ownership name to front free endpaper, publisher's quarter vellum over grey cloth. A clean, handsome set. William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. Although he lived in London for 14 years of his childhood (and kept a permanent home there during the first half of his adult life), Yeats maintained his cultural roots, featuring Irish legends and heroes in many of his poems and plays, very much the convinced patriot although Yeats deplored the hatred and the bigotry of the Nationalist movement and his poetry is full of moving protests against it.
