Tes Kaines Diathekes Hapanta. Noui Testamenti omnia. Cum scholijs ex Patribus & historijs in loca obscuriora in marginibus adiectis.
[colophon: Basileae: per Thoman Platerum, impensis Reinhardi Beck 8vo (17.8 cm; 7"). [8], 384 ff.. 1543] Annotated Greek New Testament based on Bebelius' work, with an introduction by Protestant theologian Johannes Gast and foreword by German religious reformer Johannes Oecolampadius (1482?1531). Dibdin notes that in this edition ? Platter's third ? there is an altered phrase "which, as it not only alters the sense, but destroys it, is undoubtedly an error of the press." The text also contains => an engraved title-page depicting the symbols of the four apostles and a full-page engraving of Saint Paul. Evidence of Readership: Underlining and marginal notes in Latin in two different hands; one or two words also appear => actually to have been excised from the book of Matthew. Provenance: Unidentified bookplate on front pastedown and signature of F.J. Schvvarz on title-page verso; later in the Howell Bible Collection, Pacific School of Religion (properly released). Binding: 16th-century alum-tawed pig skin over beech boards, covers elaborately tooled in blind using a wide roll featuring religious figures, double fillets, and stamps of a rose and an acorn with evidence of two brass clasp; all edges stained red. => Searches of OCLC and NUC locate no copies of this New Testament in U.S. Libraries. Bound as above, rubbed and soiled, moderate evidence of worming, bars of clasps not present, new endpapers. Marked as above, title-page margin artfully repaired; five digit rubber-stamp on title-page verso, two leaves with torn corners, one with a word or two excised, a few with gentle waterstaining; light age-toning.
