London: Forster Groom & Co., 1898 - Octavo. Original red and blue cloth, title gilt to the spine, and the battalion badge to the front board, black surface-paper endpapers. A little rubbed, spine sunned and crumpled head and tail, light toning, later "military" bookplate - "Ex Libris McGregor" - to the front pastedown, otherwise very good. Frontispiece and 5 other plates, errata slip. First and only edition. Extremely uncommon, just two locations, BL and Kensington and Chelsea library, on OCLC. "The narrative covers the period stated in uniform detail. It has good coverage of several little-known operations in the West Indies and in West Africa" (Perkins).
