Los Angeles, CA: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1947. Final draft script for the 1947 film. Brief notation in holograph pencil on the verso of the last page. Based on the 1947 novel by Eleazar Lipsky, Nick Bianco (Mature) is a jewel thief who gets nabbed in the heist, and sent to jail. Despite advice from an attorney, Nick refuses to rat on his partners. While in jail, his wife commits suicide and his daughters are put in an orphanage. He finally decides to give up his old partner, and is paroled, and remarries to start a new life. But, the old partner is not far behind. Set in New York, shot there on location. Nominated for two Academy Awards. Blue studio wrappers, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 17, and dated Feb. 27, 1947. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. Title page present, noted as Final Script, dated February 27, 1947, with credits for screenwriters Hecht and Lederer. 147 leaves, with last leaf of text numbered 145. Mimeograph, with blue revision pages throughout, dated 3/14/47, and white revision pages throughout, dated 3/31/47. The white revision pages are brittle and have been encapsulated in protective sleeves, and bound in. Pages and wrapper Very Good plus, bound internally with two gold brads. Grant, p. 354.
