The Grammar of Ornament
London: Day and Son, Ltd, 1865. Hardcover. Very Good. Second edition, first printing. Small folio (13.5" x 9.5"). Original purplish brown cloth recently recased with original spine laid down, all edges gilt. 157 pp. with color plates numbered to 100 as in original edition and as called for in table of contents, although title page calls for 112; the final twelve may be missing. Cloth unevenly toned at front, gilt lettering rubbed, faint tape stains. All plates are bright and beautiful, tissue guards intact. Gift inscription on front flyleaf, small piece of publisher's catalogue glued to front paste down. Tiny light Dyeing Company stamp on title page. A stunning example of chromolithography cataloguing ornamentation throughout history.
