Contemporary brown calf, gitl to spine with red title label, gilt rule to boards, edgese speckled red. Minor toning otherwise internally clean. Some browing to endpapers offset from leather turn-ins, Binding expertly rebacked with original laid down (most accomplished). This copy from the library of popular, mild-mannered British politician Denis Healey (1917-2015), Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1974-9 (ownership signature to flyleaf -purchased directly from his estate). Published anonymously, this title is better known as 'An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding' and is a revision of Hume's earlier effort, 'A Treatise of Human Nature', with the addition of his notorious essay 'On Miracles'. The book has proven highly influential, and is widely regarded as a classic in modern philosophical literature.
