'His contributions to our knowledge of American plant life made for him a place of imperishable distinction as an American botanist' (Humphrey, Makers of North American botany p. 176). The plates were engraved by Plée after drawings by Pierre Joseph Redouté./The work was also issued in octavo format on inferior paper.
