A New And Correct Chart Of The Channel Between England & France
E.Halley / J.Mount & T.Page - London - - 100.5 x 63 - Coloured - A most attractive and detailed chart of the Channel and part of the Irish Sea compiled by the important astronomer and hydrographer, Edmund Halley, and published in the series of Coasting Pilots, the standard British coastal reference of the early and mid-eighteenth century. The chart shows the Irish coast northwards from Cork, the Welsh and English coasts are depicted from Cardigan Bay southwards along the Channel coast and then heading up the east coast of England as far as Norfolk. Inset plans show Plymouth Sound and the Isle of Wight. The whole is traversed with rhumb lines, sounding depths are given and sand banks are depicted - all navigational aids. Typical restoration to centrefold and other areas of paper weakness, and with attractive hand colour.
