Boston: Houghton Mifflin and Company, 1906. 1st. Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. The 1906 "Manuscript" edition. "Of this first edition two hundred copies have been printed and bound entirely uncut, with paper label, and containing a page of Mr. Hearn's manuscript". The manuscript page--in his neat hand-- reads: Asu yori wa Waga tama-doko wo Uchi harai, Kimi to inezute Hitori ka mo nen! [From tomorrow, alas! after having put my jewel-bed in order, no longer reposing with my lord, I must sleep alone!] A crisp, well-preserved, VG+ copy in its dark cloth. Still firm and tightly-bound. Very slight darkening to the spine label, otherwise clean as could be. Thick octavo, 475 pgs., deckled fore-edge and bottom-edge.
