Medusa, 1940 Henry Miller's own copy of his masterpiece, an unauthorized bootleg edition reportedly printed in Mexico. The true First American edition of Miller's first book for which he would earn literary immortality. This copy is inscribed by Miller on the front free endpaper as follows: "Author's own copy. Return to Henry Miller, Big Sur, California." There were 1000 copies of the Medusa edition printed by the publisher Jacob Brussel who eventually went to prison for publishing pornography. Between 200 and 500 extra copies which later printed and went to New York, where they were sold privately. The beige cloth covers and the contents are in very good, clean and tight condition. A rare signed copy of this 1st US edition. Precedes the US trade edition published by Grove Press some 20 years later. Housed in a custom-made collector's clamshell case.. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket.
