First Edition, first issue (without the author's name) Royal 8vo, [viii], 154 pp, 76 plates, mostly aquatint but a few line engravings, all in fine original hand-colouring, watermarks are "J.Whatman 1815, (i.e. pre-publication), the plates are all in fine and bright impressions and very clean,contemporary tree calf, narrow floral roll-tool borders, fully gilt spine, red morocco title label on spine, (possibly not an English binding), a little damage at one corner otherwise in fine condition.Abbey notices two issues, one with Papworth's name on the title the other without but claims that no precedence has been established. His copy has the author's name but some of his plates are watermarked as late as 1818, whereas our copy, without the name, has only "1815" watermarks, indicating that it must be the earlier issue.
