Toklas Lesbian/Gay Democratic Club materials including Alice Reports, Issues reports, tabloids, newsletters and handbills, some wear, toning and ink marks otherwise very good condition: Included are: four small leaflets/cards/brochures stating endorsements and/or describing the Club; Seven 8.5x11 inch handbills offering membership, announcing events, one is a two-sided announcement in facsimile script handwriting about the McGovern campaign; Two Awards dinner program booklets, 1983 & 1985; A democratic Voter Alert folded tabloid for June 1982; SF Voter Alert folded tabloid for November 2nd, 1982; Four Alice reports daily folded tabloids, July 15-17 & 19, 1984; Nine Alice reports Community Edition folded tabloids, vol. 1, #1-4, March - June, 1983, & November 1983, June & November 1984, June 1986 & Summer 1991; Five Alice Reports Club Edition folded tabloids, December 1983 & Jan-April, 1984; Newsletter vol. 1, #1. 2 & 4, vol. 2, #1 & 4 (8.5x11 inches, varied pagination); Ten Issues reports, June-November 1983, February, May & July 1984 & October 1985, all but the 1985 single color 8.5x11 inch sheets; Alice Reports newsletter format (most 8.5x11 inches, many 5.5x8.5 inch booklets, includes vol.:issue # 3:1, 4:1-5, 5:2, May-Oct 1976, Feb-Dec 1977, Jan-Dec 1978, Jan, Feb, April, July, Aug, Nov & dec 1979, Jan-Dec 1980, Jan-Dec 1981, Feb, May, July-Dec 1982, Jan, Feb, April, May, July, Sept, Oct 1983, May, July, Sept, Dec 1984, March-May & Aug-Dec 1985, Jan-May & Aug-Nov 1986, Jan-Dec 1987, Jan-Aug 1988, Jan-Oct 1989, Jan-Dec 1990, Jan-April & June 1991, Jan-March 1992 Founded in 1971 by activists and partners Del Martin & Phyllis Lyon, the Club was the first LGBT organization for Democrats in the US. A rather conservative liberal organization the Club was superseded in the late 1970s/80s by the more militant/activist Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club. It was however an important step in gay liberation.
