Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Signed by "Alice" and in the Original Slipcase)
New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1932. Full leather. Near Fine. John Tenniel. A lovely copy of this 1932 Limited Editions Club offering, #669 of 1,500 copies issued. Roughly 500 or so of these include the leaf signed by Alice Hargreaves (the "original Alice"), which the publisher bound-in as one of the front endpapers. This copy not only includes the "Alice" signature but is also signed at the colophon by Frederic Warde, who was repsonsible for the typography and the morocco binding. Clean and Near Fine in its full red leather, with lavish gilt-tooling and decoration at the the panels. One tiny chip (about the size of a pinhead) to the spine crown and several microscopic, almost imperceptible nicks along the spine. Internally, very clean, with no writing or markings of any kind. Octavo, all edges gilt, the legendary John Tenniel illustrations accompany the text. Also includes a sturdy, very solid example of the publisher's light-blue, printed slipcase, with customary darkening along the spine. One of the unquestioned highspots in the illustrious history of the Limited Editions Club.
