Uncle Tom's Cabin
Cassell 1852 - Cassell 1852. First Cruickshank edition with 27 engravings in text. Frontis present as shown. Original publisher's binding with decoration in blind on upper and lower covers. Gilt lettering - somehwat faded - on spine. Some fraying to spine ends. Stain on lower cover which has carried through to rear paste-down. Interesting binding fault(?) in that the introductory pages concerning the author and her family run as expected from xv to xvi but the remaining pages xvii to xxiv have been bound in between pages 388 and 389 of the text. All text and introduction present. One page of adverts at rear. Small signature - "Miss Giles, March 1855" - on f.e.p. The occasional foxing spot to the illustrations but all present and collated. A reasonably tight GOOD copy in the original binding. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
