An Account of the Transactions of His Majestry's Mission to the Court of Persia in the years 1807-11, 2 volumes
London: James Bohn, 1834. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good. First printing, 1834. Large 8vo, rebound in handsome maroon cloth gilt, 2 volumes in one,pp. viii, 472, xxxiv, (4), v, (6)-238, with half title to first volume, 11 lithographed plates and folding map as called for, collated complete. Fine; text seems slightly trimmed all the way around, very faint small blue spot to middle of frontispiece of the first volume, owner's bookplate on pastedown (Halford Lancaster Hopkins), small ink number stamp on dedication page ('217-A') but no evidence this was a library book. We could find little on Hopkins except that he graduated Earlham College in Indiana in 1913. Brydges' book is rare on the market and commands substantial auction records; a 'modern cloth' bound copy fetched 3000 Pounds in 2007 at Bonhams, with blindstamps to plates, and another copy with 'marginal dampstaining' sold for 8000 Pounds at Sotheby's in 1999.
