"In 1934 Leach returned to Japan for a fifteen-month visit where he toured country potteries and collected material for A Potter's Book (1940). by far his most influential text. With its blend of philosophical thoughts on 'standards' for studio pottery and sound practical advice on clay bodies, techniques, glazing, and kilns, the book became regarded as the 'potter's bible' and is still in print" (ODNB).
