Universal City, CA: Universal-International Pictures, 1947. Final Shooting Script for the 1949 film. Copy belonging to actor Van Heflin, with his name in holograph ink on the front wrapper. Brief notations throughout in holograph pencil. Based on James H. Street's 1942 novel. Keith Alexander (Heflin) is a newspaperman covering the Civil War in the Deep South. He falls in love with Morna (Hayward), whose fiancee, Clay (Connor), is away at war on the Confederate side, even though Morna's family would like to remain neutral. Clay plans to attack the would-be neutral citizens, and Morna is left to defend her family and thwart her fiancee's attack. Set in Mississippi, shot on location in Tennessee and North Carolina. Red studio wrappers, noted as FINAL SHOOTING SCRIPT on the front wrapper, dated May 8, 1947. Title page present, undated, with a credit for screenwriter LeMay. 146 leaves, with the last leaf of text numbered 146. Mimeograph, with blue and pink revision pages throughout, dated variously between 5/22/47 and 7/18/47. Pages and wrapper Near Fine, bound with three gold brads. Blottner, pp. 269-271.
