1974. . Very Good. 8-1/2 x 11 inches. Photocopy of a typescript of the novel "Something Happened" dated 1974 (numbered 812pp). Signed on title page and dated by Heller, 4/21/76, New York City and appears to have belonged to Heller himself. Signed ts., 1 p. from Something Happened entitled "I Get the Willies".The book, "Something Happened", had mixed reviews (even to this day) with this positive side of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr's quote on October 6, 1974 The New York Times book Review..."Is this book any good? Yes. It is splendidly put together and hypnotic to read. It is as clear and hard-edged as a cut diamond. Mr. Heller's concentration and patience are so evident on every page that one can only say that "Something Happened" is at all points precisely what he hoped it would be. " 2 TLS to Don Carpenter (American writer, best known as the author of Hard Rain Falling), 6 September 1962 and 19 January 1963, re views and reviews of Catch-22 and the merits of San Francisco versus New York. TLS to Mr. Adamucci, 21 October 1967, urging him not to see Cleopatra but to read Catch-22 instead. Postcard to George Hooke, 20 April 1987: "Send it with a stamped self-addressed book mailer & I'll be happy to oblige." ALS to Heller from Darren Schaeffer, n.d. [1987], asking about the original title of Catch-22, with an appended note from Heller: "Yep, it really began as Catch-18. J.H. And silly me! I signed George's book on the back page first. I think he'll be pleased. J.H." Postcard to Schaeffer, 9 May 1987, re his appreciation of Catch-22. ALS to [Schaeffer] with envelope post-marked 11 May 1 1987: "Send it along in a stamped self-addressed book mailing envelope and I will be happy to oblige." And pencil sketch of Heller, signed by him in ink, 17 October 1993. All of this material is housed in a custom blue linen box.Joseph Heller was an American satirical novelist, short story writer, and playwright. His second novel, published in 1974, thirteen years after Catch-22 and spanning more than a decade writing was "Something Happened".This collection is on consignment with LDRB.
