The American Wild Turkey. Frontispiece by Walter A. Weber. Gravures by E. Stanley Smith.
Georgetown, SC: Small-Arms Technical Publishing Co., a Samworth Book on Hunting, 1949. First edition. 8vo. viii, (2), 3319 pp. Illustrated from photographs, plates, color frontispiece, vignettes; eight-page publisher's advertising supplement dated December, 1948, at rear. The classic work on the subject, based on the author's 55 years hunting and studying the wild turkey in the lowlands of South Carolina. With the bookplate of Ellison Smyth Hudgens (1901-2002), a long-time resident of Flat Rock, North Carolina, who sold his family home "Connemara" to Carl Sandburg in 1945; with a Christmas, 1949, gift inscription to Hudgens from his mother. Casada 55: "Cornerstone of any turkey hunting library and arguably the most important book ever written on the subject." Very good. Original gilt-stamped gold cloth, color illustrated dust jacket (a little rubbed around the edges). (#6030)
