The Great Gatsby (Original screenplay for an unproduced film, Mary Miles Minter's signed copy)
Sherman Oaks, CA: Self published, 1972. Draft script for an unproduced adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, "The Great Gatsby." Copy belonging to actress Mary Miles Minter, SIGNED by the screenwriter John Baron on the title page. Minter was a stunning actress during the early twentieth century, starred in over fifty silent films, and was at the center of a murder scandal in 1922 involving the death of director William Desmond Taylor ("Huck and Tom," "Johanna Enlists"). Minter's career was forever tarnished after the scandal, and she died in 1984. Fitzgerald's novel has been adapted several times, notably in 1926, 1949, 1974, and most recently in 2013. This script bears striking resemblance to that penned by Francis Ford Coppola for the 1974 Jack Clayton film. Blue studio wrappers, with a credit for screenwriter Baron on the front wrapper. Title page present, rubber-stamped as a registered copy of the Writers Guild of America, West, dated 1972, with credits for novelist Fitzgerald and screenwriter Baron. 159 leaves, with last leaf of text numbered 158. Mechanically reproduced. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound with a silver prong brad.
