Palestinae sive totius terrae promissionis nova
A new description of Palestine or the whole Promised Land. The shoreline runs from Berytus (Beirut) to the Nile Delta, reaching inland east of the Jordan and in the south to the Red Sea. The Dead Sea is crescent shaped. A legend at upper left and the title at bottom right are surrounded by cartouches in baroque style. The legend reads: Antiquisima huius terre appelatio fuit Canaan? Hodie eam terram Sanctam nuncupant? At the top of the left hand upper cartouche there is a small empty space which in the later editions carries an inscription. From the Latin edition of Abraham Ortelius' 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum', 1575. Copperplate with fine original hand colouring, generally in good condition. Laor, 540B; Atlantes Neerlandici, 31:301 : Van den Broecke, Ortelius 170. Dimensioni 470 385mm
