Second (expanded) Dutch edition of retired pirate Alexandre Exquemelin's famous and much imitated eye-witness account of pirate life in the Caribbean in the late 17th-century: "the prime, and indeed almost the only comprehensive source of information for pirate activities in the seventeenth century" (Howgego). It comprises three parts (on the island Hispaniola, pirate life, and the capture of Panama City) plus an appendix giving an account of the journey made by buccaneer captain Montauban in 1695. Binding rubbed. Good copy of popular account of piracy by an insider.
