Poems, Chiefly Rural.
12mo., contemporary calf, spine with red morocco label, gilt rules and centre tools. Small chip at bottom of front joint, a little rubbing, dedication leaf trimmed on the bottom edge just affecting the last line of type, but still a very good, attractive copy. Second edition, corrected, including the addition (also found in variant issues of the first edition) of Richardson's story The Indians, a Tale. The only lifetime collection of poetry by the distinguished Glasgow scholar and author William Richardson (1743-1814), who was a friend of the Foulis brothers and helped to edit some of their other publications. The Indians, A Tale is set on the Canadian border, and was later turned into a tragedy performed at the Theatre Royal Richmond. Gaskill 570, Sabin 71088 (describing a later edition).
