Kelly, Piet & Co, Baltimore 1869 - Quarto. [2], xvi, 17-833 pages. Frontispiece steel engraving of Admiral Semmes. Illustrations including 6 chromo-litho colored plates. Original publishers brown cloth hardcover with gilt signature of Admiral Semmes on front board. Faded gilt title and illustration on spine. Cloth is worn, wrinkled and edge worn. Corners bumped. Small chip to cloth on spine. Previous owner inscription "William B. Taliaferro Dunham Massie" written in pencil on the front blank end paper (Tailiaferro died at his Dunham Massie Estate in 1898). Taliaferro was involved in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Fredericksburg and Charleston's defenses. Taliaferro served under Stonewall Jackson's command.
