Light blue cloth hardcover bindings with black and red impressing on boards and black and gold impressing on spines. Decorative end papers. Numerous illustrations by Ruskin throughout the volumes. Title of collected works only appears on the covers with the title pages inside each volume referring only to the works contained within. In addition, typesetting varies between books within each volume suggesting that the American publisher had Ruskin's various works to that date rebound together as a set in 1887. Scuffing and wear to spines and board corners. Some soiling. Several newspaper clippings inside various volumes. "C Jeffrey" inscribed after end papers. John Ruskin (1819-1900) died after this collection of his works was sold so not all of his later works are included. The set does contain the full texts of the following: 5 volumes of Modern Painters with prefaces for the 1st-3rd and "new" edition of 1873; 3 volumes of The Stones of Venice; The Seven Lamps of Architecture; Lectures on Architecture and Painting delivered at Edinburgh in November 1853; An Inquiry into some of the Conditions at Present Affecting the Study of Architecture in Our Schools. The Poetry of Architecture: Cottage, Villa, etc. To which is added suggestions on Works of Art by "Kata Phusin" (Ruskin's nome-de-plume); The Two Paths being Lectures on Art and its application to Decoration and Manufacture, delivered in 1858-9; Lectures on Art Delivered before the University of Oxford in Hilary term, 1870; The Political Economy of Art: or, "A Joy Forever" (and its price in the market).
