Rome: Francesco Gonzaga, 1714. 2° (399 x 264 mm). Engraved title vignette after Pier Leone Ghezzi, engraved graduated scale plate, 47 full-page copperplate engravings by Giulio de' Musi after drawings by Eustachi and Pier Matteo Pini. Text and tables browned and foxed, ink spots on some leaves. Contemporary calf with spine gilt, cover boards and spine worn and bumped. Pictorial bookplate by Francois Moutier on inner board. ---- Choulant-Frank pp. 200-202; Garrison-Morton 391; Wellcome II, p. 536; Norman 740. - FIRST EDITION. This series of 47 plates were prepared in 1552 to illustrate a projected book by Eustachius (ca. 1505-1574) entitled De dissensionibus ac controversiis anatomicis, which was never realized before Eustachius's death. Only the first eight copperplate engravings were published during Eustachius's lifetime, in his Opuscula anatomica. Early in the 18th-century the plates were found and brought to the attention of Giovanni Maria Lancisi, who published the full series of 47 plates along with his notes..
