Over Sea, Under Stone
The First UK Printing published by Jonathan Cape in 1965. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends and a hint of toning to the text-block. Gilt titling remains bright. Free from erasures, markings and inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. It is the correct first issue with a price of 16s net. Mild edge wear with a few short nicks and a small closed tear to the front upper edge. Minor rubbed area to the lower rear edge. Blue colouring too the spine is lightly faded and the white lettering to the spine is mildly toned. The Margery Gill wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Wonderfully B/W illustrations throughout by Margery Gill. The first title in the acclaimed 'The Dark is Rising' series. Further series titles won both the Newbery Medal, recognizing the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children", and the inaugural Welsh Tir na n-Og Award for English-language books with Welsh background. Contemporary Arthurian fantasy and the struggle between The Light and The Dark. An exceptionally difficult title to find in any condition with most going to libraries. Scarce with such attributes. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
